In case the title wasn't enough of a hint, Mr. W and I are going to attempt to go to Babies R Us this weekend. I've been once since becoming pregnant, but that was a quick in and out for a Snoogle. I don't thnk I'm really emotionally ready to go...But it's either suck it up or keep procrastinating and end up tucking these kids into our sock drawers. Plus, I'm a big girl and it's time to act like it. Let's just hope that my stomach acts like a big girl too and allows me to leave my house this weekend!
We need to pick out furniture. My FIL has been bugging (and bugging and bugging and bugging...as in almost daily asking) us about picking out cribs so he can get them for us. I am beyond grateful that he wants to and is doing this for us. I'm not doing any sort of registry though; not yet. I've had some other family members nagging me about it, but they'll get over it. After my big u/s I'll suck it up and do it.
So why am I so stupid about going and picking out cribs? Because then someone is going to buy them for us. Then we'll have cribs in the house. Then we'll have a nursery instead of an office (or guest bedroom...depending on whether or not the office will hold all of the furniture). Then if something goes wrong we'll have to board up a room in the house. OK, so that was possibly a little melodramatic, but you know what I mean. My Mom asked me today if I was afraid I was going to jinx it by picking out cribs. It was right then that I realized that it wasn't a fear of "jinxing" anything, it was a fear of if something were to happen, what would I do. I'd have cribs in my house with no babies to put in them...
But why am I even thinking these things? Yeah, I had an ectopic (of sorts) but what does that have to do with this pregnancy? It took us longer than expected to get properly pregnant, but we managed a (so far) successful twin pregnancy on our first round of Clomid. I know so many things that can go wrong, but there's no reason why it would happen to these babies; of course there's usually no reason that the bad things happen anyway.
At the very beginning of this pregnancy I decided that I wanted to get everything possible done during the second trimester. I kept on saying that I was waiting for an u/s to make sure everything was OK before I started. Then I was waiting to find out the sexes (which I'll have to wait a little longer so of course certain things have to wait). Now I keep thinking, I'll feel more secure once I feel them move. Um...HELLO???? I saw them moving around just 2 days ago. If I keep putting this off for one more security or another I'm going to run out of prep-time!
Now...onto needed advice. Cribs and furniture. I'm giving myself through the weekend to have them absolutely picked out. I'm probably going to get them from a store that I can walk into and see them at (do furniture stores do baby furnitre?). What criteria are you supposed to use to pick out cribs, anyway? I'm so clueless. You'd think that with all the time I've had on my couch I'd have done a little research, but I haven't.
Anyway...once again I have no flow and I'm doing a jumpy post. Oh well. That's really all I had to write about for now. I'm brewing a post in my head about the hyperemesis vs morning sickness and the public reaction to it. But that's another post.

Everyone is getting so ahead of me. I have NOTHING yet. And I haven't even started looking for anything.
For twins, I've seen those corner cribs. They are shaped like a quarter of a piece of pie and can be easily stuck together along one wall. They don't take up as much room as two full size cribs would, but still have plenty of room.
I started buying clothes and stuff I could return if things went bad (magical thinking, I know!) at about 20 weeks.
I left cots etc until just recently- 32 weeks, but I did pick out what I wanted online, so it was pretty painless in the end, although a little later than I should have left it.

You're ahead of me. I'll be 25 weeks tomorrow and I just went yesterday to Babies R Us for the first time this pregnancy. Of course, we already have some baby stuff, but I feel like I have to get one more of everything I already have to accommodate twins.
OK, cribs...I do have some experience with this, but, of course, what I'll say is just my opinion. When it comes to cribs, even though someone else is purchasing them, I wouldn't go with the very, very high end cribs. I have a friend who purchased a VERY expensive crib for her daughter, and she is SO paranoid that the kid is going scratch it or chew on it. Young kids are rough on furniture, and the crib is not an exception. I am not a fan of cribs that have a teething rail (a piece of clear plastic that covers the top crib rail). Yet if you don't have one then when the kid is teething he/she could gnaw on the wood; this is very common. I also don't like cribs with a drop rail. It seems that most high end cribs have a stationary rail...the drop rail seems to be more common in cheaper cribs. I'm sure it's very useful if you're a very short person, but they just seem to make the crib less stable. For Lila, I went with a mid-priced convertible crib with a stationary rail and no teething rail. I wanted it to look like a nice piece of furniture, be very stable, and I wanted something she could use once she was past the crib stage. We have recently converted her crib into a toddler bed (as you may have seen if you read my blog), and I'm very happy that we chose a crib that offered this option. However, while I used to think that once she was past the toddler bed stage we would convert the bed into a full sized headboard and footboard, I think by that time we'll be ready for something new.
For our twins, I want matching cribs since they'll be sharing a room. I want them to convert to toddler beds so we don't have to rush out and buy two more beds in two years. Again, I don't want a drop rail or a teething rail. I don't care if they convert into full sized beds b/c there's no way we could fit two full sized beds in their room anyway. Once we're past the toddler bed stage I assume they'll either get twin beds or bunk beds.
If I were you, I'd see if there are any baby furniture boutiques in your area. There is one in my city, and it is primarily very high end expensive, but they do have some mid-priced cribs, and they are much better than what you'd find in most baby stores. I didn't have a good experience w/ Babies R Us and their cribs when I was shopping for Lila's crib...but it was a really weird circumstance, so I'm sure they're fine in general. Good luck!

I was completely paranoid about getting my nursery together. I waited until I was about 32 weeks to really get things going. Of course, now that I'm closing in on my due date, the nursery's done and I'm so glad. But it was hard to get over the fears that I might not need the nursery. As for what kind, check out a little book called Baby Bargains - it offers really good criteria for looking at crib and all the other stuff...
I totally know how you feel. I was terrified during my second trimester that doing all this "stuff" was somehow going to jinx things, and if we set up the nursery (which we did) I'd have to board up a room when something went wrong.
But I'm glad we did it, because now I'm too uncomfortable and tired and unmotivated to want to mess with it. I'm afraid I won't be able to get my hospital bag packed, quite frankly, at this rate. Good thing I still have some time to work on that a bit at a time.
We found our cribs at Target and love them...we got the Simplicity Ellis.
Wow, I'm nowhere near ready to buy things yet. We don't have a single onesie!
But lots of people have told me to get this book called "Baby Bargains," which I am promised will explain all about different cribs and brands and strollers and car seats and all that stuff I know nothing about. So that might be a starting place (and a way to put off your FIL while you wait for it to arrive from Amazon).

I can't believe your family is bugging you about a registry already! I didn't do mine until 22 weeks or so, and I figured it was fine as long as it got done before the shower invites went out.
As for the cribs, my criteria wasn't anything special. It mostly had to do with finish, price and looks. I ordered all my furniture online at CSNbaby.com and had the crib and changing table within a week. Good luck!
Hmmm, sounds like we are in the same boat. I would like to start looking at cribs this weekend. Thanks for asking the questions...I'm taking notes! If I find anything good, I'll let you know. I'm thinking midpriced as well. Somehow since we had our anatomy scan I feel a little safer shopping. But then again - I'm shopping from my couch since I'm on bedrest. I figure after maybe another week or two I'll be brave enough to actually start ordering things. Isn't it crazy that you and I both are afraid to start this whole shopping thing?
