Ultrasound and Appointment

The fetal echo went wonderfully!  According to the technician both boys' hearts look "beautiful".  Hooray!  They're each measuring a day ahead and weigh approximately 1 lb 2 oz.  They fought almost the entire time so it was amazing she could even get the shots she needed.  She was about to get a great shot of Baby B when suddenly a forearm came across his head quickly followed by an elbow.  Hahaha!

My cervix is holding up like a champ!  It measured an average of 5.3 cm in length.  That made me as happy as knowing how great the boys are doing.  :-)

Now about my weight.  Ugh.  The nurse seriously thought she had the wrong chart when I stepped on the scale.  I gained 10 lbs in 2 weeks.  WTF???  I guess it's all those potato chips, mashed potatoes, and Chex mix I've been eating.  They told me to cut back on the crap and add more protein.  Of course I'm still nauseous and meat is just about my biggest turn-off.  Once again they told me to drink Carnation Instant Breakfast.  I think I'll stick with my Zone bars.  130 calories and 5 grams of protein for the Carnation or 220 calories and 14 grams of protein for the Zone bars.  The bars make more sense to me!

Then the doctor told me that I need to wean off of the Zofran.  Umm...why?  He figures (and this is the first time I've seen this guy) that since I'm gaining weight, there's no  need for the medicine.  Um...I'm gaining because snacking on salty foods non-stop keeps the nausea at bay!  I'm gaining because the Zofran keeps me from vomitting!  I told him I'd work on it.  He asked if I'd ever skipped a dose and I informed that I'd done it by accident once or twice and regretted it.  He still wants me to give it up.  Luckily the other guy there (for all of the seasons of Grey's Anatomy that I've watched I can't remember what this guy's position is...he's still learning, but he's a doctor)(googled it and figured it out...he was a "fellow".  there was also a resident in the room.) wrote me another prescription with two refills.  Yay for the good doc!  Boo bad doc (who, by the way, needs to lay off of the carbs himself).

The one good thing the doctor told me was that with my excellent cervical length my chances of delivering earlier than desired are down to 1-2%.  I said, "My cervix rocks!" and all three of the doctors in my exam room looked at me like I was crazy.  Seriously...my cervix does rock.  ;-)

So now I've got some funny pregnancy things to share.

  • My hair & eyebrows have gotten redder

  • My eyelashes have gotten lighter

  • The hair on my legs is growing slower and not as thick

Thank you all so much for all the support on my last post!!!  <3

I'll close this post with a picture of the boys plotting:

That second doc that you liked...a resident?? I've been blogging about residents too...but not in a good way, lol.

Yay for long cervixes. I don't know how mine is holding up so well with all this weight, but I'm grateful.

The boys almost looks like they're giving each other a kiss in that picture :).

You'll be glad that the hair on your legs is growing less. I hate to horrify you, but I couldn't even get to anything below my wait to take care of matters after about 25 weeks. ANYTHING :)

Oh, I also had a great Cx length (snap...also 5.3!)at 24 weeks, and I went at 36, but then again I did also contract all the time and that's a seperate risk factor for preterm delivery.

So glad the echo was good and that us pic is the best,

J

Yay for a great appointment! This was a different scale, right? Maybe it was off just a tad. I did have a two week period where I gained 7 pounds, but then for two more appointments (4 weeks) I only gained a couple more, so a total of 9 in a 6 week period. Don't be alarmed until you see future weights. :)

WTG on the excellent cervix! (something I didn't think I'd say today)

Hello beautiful boys! Your cervix does rock - and I'm glad you said that! So glad to hear such a good update - those are the most fun to read :-) You made me giggle about the one doc needing to cut back on his carbs, LOL! I say do what makes you feel good - if it includes taking some zofran for the next following weeks or even couple months. Go for it. I'm still on the zofran - and it is safe to take - so I say I think you're doing a great job and keep up all the good work!

Forgot to say it's funny you mentioned the redder hair. I've always had kind of light brown with a little blond to my hair. But since I've been pregnant - I definitely have a reddish hue to things, especially my eyebrows. Must be all the Irish on my dad's side of the family kicking in :-)
